Pianist Magazine is an excellent publication offering a whole host of goodies for pianists everywhere. Whether you’re a pro, semi-pro, teacher, amateur or young student, there is so much to enjoy. From ‘how to play’ articles to those focusing on various aspects of piano technique, theory, piano music, an interview with the featured front cover star pianist, as well as over forty pages of sheet music, an accompanying CD, and online video tutorials – what more could a pianist ask for?
Many will be aware that I regularly contribute to Pianist, but in this edition (No. 89), one of my piano pieces has been printed in the sheet music section. The piece, Karma from Digressions, has also been recorded by Pianist‘s resident pianist, Chenyin Li. You can hear her beautiful rendition, which was recorded at the Royal College of Music, by clicking on the Soundcloud link at the end of this post.
Karma was inspired by self-healing, and the sense of peace and happiness which can manifest from positive thoughts. The warm key (E major) and tuneful melody felt appropriate for this sentiment. It’s around Grade 4 or 5 (intermediate) level.
If you aren’t able to purchase Pianist Magazine (you can either choose to buy a hard copy or digital subscription), you can download Karma for free today (for 24 hours only) on EVC Music Publication’s website. To download, click here. I hope you and your students enjoy playing it!
