As the COVID-19 health crisis continues to dominate our everyday lives, many artists have taken to online forums, and particularly social media, in order to continue their work. With this in mind, Russian pianist, composer, teacher and writer, GéNIA (Genia Chudinovich) has established a new interview series, ‘Quarantine or Paradise’, where she will speak to noted artists, as well as those from various creative industries, discussing aspects of their work.
GéNIA says:
‘During these difficult times, I have decided to initiate a series of interviews with many remarkable & inspirational people from various creative industries, who have generously agreed to share their advice and give some tips to those of us who are fortunate enough to remain in reasonably good health, but finding it difficult being confided at home. This is my attempt to make our lives slightly less strained and, maybe, more interesting and perhaps even exciting!’
I’m honoured and excited to be the first guest in this new series. We filmed the interview last week, and it was premiered on YouTube last night. Here, GéNIA and I discuss and share tips on how to improve, and get the most from, your practice sessions. Intended mainly for pianists, some of the suggestions may also be of interest to those who are currently pursuing any type of creative skill.

For much more information about how to practice piano repertoire, take a look at my piano course, Play it again: PIANO (published by Schott Music). Covering a huge array of styles and genres, the course features a large collection of progressive, graded piano repertoire from approximately Grade 1 to advanced diploma level, with copious practice tips for every piece. A convenient and beneficial course for students of any age, with or without a teacher, and it can also be used alongside piano examination syllabuses too.
